2017 Adult Summer Basketball Wrap-Up

The 2017 Adult Summer Basketball League is in the books, and it was an incredible success! This year saw nine competitive teams formed from an astonishing 96 players. We were ecstatic to see this great turnout, and cannot wait to see this program continue to grow in the years to come!

This season saw an incredible number of exciting and competitive games take place. When the regular season came to a close, the Cougars (Captained by Elliott Hodges) had earned the #1 seed with a record of 6-2. Gang Grey (Captained by Eric Waddell) was right behind them in the #2 position, also with a record of 6-2. Weicker Construction (Captained by Brad Muse) earned the #3 seed, with the Hurricanes (Captained by Brandon Moore) and the Gators-Mapleton Lane Custom Homes (Captained by Zach High) finishing as the #4 and #5 seed respectively, as all three of these teams ended the regular season with a record of 5-3. McEntire Insurance (Captained by Ben McEntire) finished with a record of 4-4 to earn the #6 seed, followed by Smoky Mountain Machining, Inc. As it became time for the playoffs to begin, the intensity of every game was taken up a notch. The third seeded Weicker Construction (Muse) and the fourth seeded Hurricanes (Moore) both battled their way to the championship game, with each team pulling off an upset over one of the top two seeds in the process.

The championship game was an incredible matchup that went back and forth throughout the game. Weicker Construction jumped out to an early lead and ended the first quarter up by a score of 25-18. However, the Hurricanes would battle back to take a three point half time lead. The Hurricanes lead swelled in the third quarter up to eleven at one point, but Weicker Construction was able to get it back down to a five point deficit heading into the fourth quarter. In the fourth quarter, Weicker Construction took control of the game and regained the lead. Antoni Staley scored eight of his game high 26 points in the fourth quarter to secure a 67-64 victory for Weicker Construction, and his second consecutive Championship Game MVP. Other notable performers were Derrall Beason (16 points-Hurricanes), Marcus Crank (15 points-Hurricanes), Wade Smith (15 points- Hurricanes) and Neil Wingo (13 points-Weicker Construction).
