North Carolina requires each unit of local government to establish a Ten-Year Solid Waste Management Plan and update the plan every three years. The goal of these efforts is to reduce the waste stream in the State by 40 percent, when measured as tons per capita per year. A committee composed of representatives from Polk County, Saluda, Tryon, and Columbus compiled the information in the plan and set forth the waste reduction goals. This document is to be used as a planning tool to track the waste reduction, reuse, and recycling efforts throughout Polk County.
