Spring Volleyball 2016 Wrap Up
This spring we introduced some changes to our youth volleyball league, and it was an incredible success! We offered four age groups ranging from children ages 7 to 18. We had 18 total teams in these age groups with over 140 total players, and every league was incredibly competitive and exciting from start to finish.
In our 7-9 year old league, we had seven teams competing. These teams were Navy (coached by Julie Carroll), Carolina Blue (Coached by Cameron Capozzi and Addie Lynch), Light Blue (Coached by Karen Lawrence), Grey (Coached by Autumn Horton), Jade (Coached by Angela Carson), Orange (Coached by Heather Wilson), and Purple (Coached by Mandy Wolfe). Navy captured both the regular season and tournament championships, with Carolina Blue earning the title of runners-up for both the regular season and the tournament.
In the first season of our 12 years old and under age group we had six very even teams. These teams were Tropical Blue (Coached by Amy Varnadore), Sapphire (Coached by Reagan Waddell), Navy (Coached by Hunter Kilgore and Ashley Scruggs), Pink (Coached by Josie Kay), Orange (Coached by Amanda Casey), and Dark Heather (Coached by Heather Harden). Throughout the course of a very competitive season, Tropical Blue earned the title of regular season and tournament champions. The title of regular season runners-up went to Sapphire, with Navy earning the runner-up title for the postseason tournament.
This was also our first season offering a league for players ages 15 and under, which was also very successful. We had 3 balanced teams, coached by Stacey Shields (Green), Heather Harden (Dark Heather), and Emery Viehman (Jade). The Green team earned first place for both the regular season and the tournament, by barely edging out Dark Heather both times.
Our final league was the inaugural season for our 18 years old and under co-ed league. We had two teams in this age group, but both teams had a blast throughout the entire season! These teams were led by Cameron Capozzi and Addie Lynch (Carolina Blue) and Hunter Kilgore and Ashley Scruggs (Navy). They played each other eight times throughout the season (five times in the regular season and a three game postseason series), with Navy winning five out of the eight matchups to earn both the regular season and postseason championships.
We would like to thank all of our players, coaches, parents and supporters for helping to make this season such a great success. We couldn’t do it without you!!
