Spring 2017 Volleyball Wrap Up

This Spring Volleyball season was one of the biggest seasons in recent memory. It saw nearly 150 players sign up across three different age groups, to form 21 teams! This was definitely a season to remember!

Our youngest age group, 7-9 years old, was made up of seven teams. These teams were Pink (Coached by Autumn Brannon), Carolina Blue (Coached by Cait Crew), Black (Coached by Kimberly Arthur), Sapphire (Coached by Mandy Wolfe), Jade (Coached by Millie McCall; Sponsored by Mitch Contracting), Lime (Coached by Savannah Martin), and Navy (Coached by Tina Bradley). This age group had exciting games all season long and it was incredible to watch their progression throughout the season. After many hard fought games, Sapphire earned the title of Regular Season Champions with an undefeated record. Throughout the season, Lime and Jade (Mitch Contracting) were battling for the second seed, and both finished with a record of four wins and only two losses. However, due to a head to head victory Lime was named the Regular Season Runners-Up. In the postseason tournament, both Navy and Carolina Blue pulled off first round upsets, but ultimately it was Sapphire versus Lime competing for the Tournament Championship. After three tough games, Sapphire came out on top by a score of 23-25, 25-21, 15-8.

Our 12 and under age group incredibly had enough players to form ten exciting teams! This was a tremendous amount of growth from the previous Spring. These teams were Grey (Coached by Amy Yoder), Pink (Coached by Angela Carson), Black (Coached by Brian Taylor), Yellow (Coached by Jodi Harris), Military Green (Coached by Julie Carroll), Sapphire (Coached by Karen Lawrence), Royal (Coached by Michelle Quinn), Purple (Coached by Patricia Bradley), Lime (Coached by Savannah Martin), and Green (Coached by Stacy Harris). This league was very balanced and competitive, and was sure to provide exciting matchups every time they took the court. This was evident by the facts that six of the ten teams in this league had at least two wins and at least two losses, and that there were no winless teams. Even with there being so many evenly matched teams, Pink was able to navigate their way to an undefeated record in the regular season, making them the Regular Season Champions. Military Green and Sapphire both finished the regular season with 5-2 records, with Military Green gaining the title of Regular Season Runners-Up based on the amount of individual games won throughout the season. When tournament play began, the fifth and the sixth seeded teams (Royal and Yellow) earned a first round upset victories. Royal then backed that win up by defeating the #1 seed in the semifinals to advance to the Championship game where they would face the #2 seed, Military Green. It took three intense games, but Military Green came out on top (25-21, 19-25, 15-6) to earn the Tournament Championship, with Royal as Tournament Runners-Up.

This Spring we also had a great turn out for our 15 and under league. We were able to form four teams in this age group, which was an improvement from previous seasons. These teams were Royal (Coached by Amy Garland), Sapphire (Coached by Carolina Castillo), Dark Heather (Coached by Heather Wilson), and Red (Coached by Rebecca Hardin). All four teams played hard all season, but Red and Royal were able to earn the titles of Regular Season Champions and Regular Season Runners-Up, respectively. They both ended the regular season with matching 5-1 records, but Red held the tiebreaker due to the total games won throughout the season. In the postseason tournament, both Sapphire and Dark Heather put up good fights, but ultimately it was the #1 seed Red vs #2 seed Royal in the Championship. Red fought their way to a victory with scores of 25-7 and 25-18 to capture the Tournament Championship, with Royal ending their season as the Tournament Runners-Up.

We would like to thank all of our players, coaches, parents and supporters for helping to make this season such a great success. We would also like to thank Mitch Contracting for their generosity in sponsoring one of our teams this season. We couldn’t do it without all of you!!
